Carla Bozulich's Evangelista
Based in Los Angeles, Carla Bozulich made her name as the lead singer of The Geraldine Fibbers and as a founding member Ethyl Meatplow. In 2005, Carla rekindled a decade-old connection with the Montreal-based musicians affiliated with the Constellation label, leading to a recording at that city's legendary Hotel2Tango studio, and her 'Evangelista' album - the label's first release by a non-Canadian artist. Since then, she has renamed her ever-evolving touring group 'Evangelista' and released another album 'Hello, Voyager' under this moniker. One of the most unique voices in any genre, her work is at once brutally raw and weirdly visionary, submerging popular song in mysterious pools of noise, static and muffled instrumental sounds.
The Hellset Orchestra
'The Hellset Orchestra are a 6-piece ensemble comprising of piano/organ/vocals, bass, drums, cello, violin and a saxophone. They provide the soundtrack to a silent theatrical discotheque. The Hellset Orchestra came together some time ago through coincidental research into rare Victorian bird-hunting periodicals. They decided to make music which reflected the various mating calls of the larger birds of the sub-continent. They have since expanded their repertoire, focusing more and more on producing music in the style of the silent theatrical discotheque, a long-forgotten tradition within British music. The Hellset Orchestra's concerts reflect a wide variety of concerns from that period, from the terror of being struck down in the face of a vengeful god to the whimsical delight of performing the 'Lizard Bobsleigh' and other such antiquated rituals.
